Pros: Video Refresh Rate / Upgradeable / Support. Supports ICA/RDP
Cons: Lacks Internet Explorer option by default. No legacy support.
The Bottom Line: After spending almost a year testing different devices and then rolling this unit out for over 1000 users with little problems or complaints, this is a great device.

| mshantar's Full Review: Compaq Evo T20 (238137-001) Network Terminal |
I work for a fortune 500 company using Windows Terminal Server. We were looking to move to a thin client solution and after evaluating 6 different units, we decided on the Compaq Evo Thin Client T20.
Most thin clients offer similar specs on the hardware side, however, the thing I really notice that stood out with the Evo, was the quick refresh on the screen. The other 5 units had a slow refresh rate and this wouldn't work in our design model. We didn't want our users to suffer to save a few bucks. Also, the Evo allows memory upgrade and compact flash cards can be installed to add hard disk space to the unit.
Firmware upgrades are easily handled thanks to the native support of CE, but also, the Compaq rompaqs make bios upgrades extremely easy.
Compaq support is also wonderful. We were on the phone with them many times during the roll out, and everytime got quick and accurate answers to our sometimes tricky questions.
There are only 2 problems I see with this unit. 1) The Internet Explorer option in not included on the base model. Every other similarly priced unit has this. This allows you to use the thin client as strickly a browser. The downside of that, no plugins. We're using Oracle 7 and need a pluggin, so this was of no use to use anyways. However, some may need the IE option. 2) The second potential issue is the lack of legacy support. The unit has 4 USB ports and requires USB devices. This includes mouse, keyboard, printer, etc. Some other units have USB and the standard PS/2 and parallel ports. Not a problem in a networked environment, but for smaller installations, this may be an issue.
After spending almost a year testing different devices and then rolling this unit out for over 1000 users with little problems or complaints, I would highly recommend this unit to anyone looking for a great all around thin client.
