Pros: They are VERY inexpensive, and, on the surface, quality machines....
Cons: Do your research about the company and their products before buying!

Well, well, well... should I have been surprised to land here at Epinions and find yet more negative ratings of Emachines PC's? NOPE! I am afraid that, alas, all you will discover about Emachines will be negative.
In February of 1999, my dear and sweet internet geek of a husband found a GREAT deal on Emachines PC's at Buy.com... we, as many of Emachines buyers were, thrilled at the idea of such a great price for a PC. We quickly broke out our credit card number, and waited impatiently for the UPS man to arrive.
The problems started almost immediately - as soon as we cut the machine on for the VERY first time, it powered off - randomly. We continued to have these random shutdowns - on top of continual Windows "fatal errors." Being the "in good faith" individuals that we are, we promptly placed a call into the "customer service" (HAHAHAHA) center, where, consequently, we were charged $20 just to speak to a service tech. YACK! As my husband was speaking with this person, I jumped on the net and began to look up emachines website - in hopes of finding a better phone number, where I was sure to find a friendly and helpful voice. Upon typing in "Emachines" in a MAJOR search engine, I came up with OVER 500 sites dedicated to the downfall of such company. Stories of people who had sent computers back to be serviced and NEVER saw their PC's again - people who got PC's back from Emachines and had the same technical problems as before - people who had, well, just NUMEROUS problems with the company as a whole.
My husband, after sending the PC back at our cost, and, not seeing it back to us after two months of waiting - registered the domain, "emachinessuck.com". We simply wanted a forum for people to voice concerns and experiences with the company. Within two days of launching the site, the president of the company called my husband, because, "he was concerned that we hadn't had a positive experience with the PC or the staff." BLAH BLAH BLAH!! Within two days, we had a brand new PC - a significant upgrade from the last model. It turns out they actually have people who surf the web and LOOK for sites such as my husbands... :-) STAY AWAY FROM THESE PC's!!! Our current Emachine is so loud (the fan) it sounds like it's going to implode. It still randomly powers off, and, gives us the fatal error message. The only fatal error in this story is buying a PC from Emachines in the first place!
DO YOUR RESEARCH!!! Buying a PC should be a lengthy process, one which you should become knowledgeable about! Also, it is sometimes worth the investment to spend a little more on a PC - you DEFINITELY get what you pay for!
