Pros: Outstanding sound quality, decent features.
Cons: No Detachable face, ESN not as effective as they boast.
The Bottom Line: I would recommend this deck but you do run some serious security risks with it.

| jesterrace's Full Review: Eclipse CD3422 Car CD Player |
As title says, Eclipse knows what they are doing when it comes to sound quality. I have compared a number of decks and while there are good options that are cheaper, Eclipse consistently produces top-notch results whether you are running an amplifier or not. Even the lower power models such as this one are able to produce a very rich sound and still be quite powerful because the power is very clean. Just remember that power is nothing without clarity and this is a concept that Eclipse seems to have mastered with their decks. It has a good list of features. I really haven't looked into XM or Sirius capabilities with this deck though.
The only major flaw that I can find with Eclipse decks is the security system. I don't know whose idea it was to go with the ESN (Eclipse Security Network) system but I think it was one of the dumbest ideas ever. In theory it is a good idea. The deal is that when the deck is removed and you power it back on, you have 10 tries to get the right code or the deck shuts down and it can only be re-activated at the factory. While this sounds like a good security feature, it doesn't account for one thing. . . . .must low-lifes who break into your cars have the intelligence of a garbonzo bean. In other words, they aren't going to be up to date on Eclipse decks and what ESN is, so you are still going to end up with a smashed window and getting everything torn out of your car. Yeah Eclipse has some stats that show their decks are stolen less than others but I think that is probably due to the large number of people who are lazy and don't remove the faces on their detachable face decks. On the other hand if you have a detachable face CD Player, you can take it with you and even the dumbest person is going to know that a deck without a face isn't going to do them any good and they will move on to another target. Eclipse needs to start producing detachable faces for it's decks.
