| jediempressmel's Full Review: Micro Innovations IBM Optical Navigator (19K2002) ... |
I recieved this mouse as a gift a few years ago. I love anything blue, and my bf at the time noticed that his coworker had a mouse with a blue LED scroll wheel. So he bought me one as a surprise.
The IBM optical navigator was such a nice change from the generic dell mouse I was using before. I can't ever go back to not having a scoll wheel. The mouse fits nice in the hand, but unfortunately they molded it for right handed people only.
I'm not lefthanded, but I know plenty of people who are, and it's rather annoying that companies ignore them when making products such as these.
I haven't had any trouble at all with my mouse and I've been using it daily for years. The blue light still shines brightly whenever my computer is powered on, the wheel still scrolls very smoothly, and the optical part makes is much easier to use because I can pick the mouse up, and not lose a selection in photoshop. Just don't forget to wipe off the underside every once in awhile, so that the optical part can still "see" properly!
I personally don't make use of the third button on side, or the scroll wheel click feature, but they would be nice for someone who needs thier mouse to have lots of functions. The scroll wheel can be clicked like a button, and it holds the scrolling feature so that you just scroll up and down, instead of having to place the arrow onto the scrollbar to scroll. The other button can be programmed for whatever you wish, in the control panel.
We did have some issues at first with this mouse being compatable with my system. I have an older dell dimension, running Win XP pro. Back when I got this mouse, my system was fairly new. I believe that my bf had to write a small program, or find me new drivers in order to get it to work properly. Sometimes I would start my computer, and the mouse cursor was frozen on my screen. I had to unplug it out of the usb port, and replug it in for it to work again. It was not that big of a deal, but it got rather annoying after a few months. If you don't have a computer inclined person handy to fix it, it could be an issue.
The only wear showing is on the side where my hand rubs, but other than that, it works as well as the first day I got it. I liked it so well that he bought me a second one as back up.
All in all, it's a great mouse.
If you have XP, it could have issues, to be aware of that. Also, if you're lefthanded, maybe try it out first, before commiting.
Personally I think it's a great mouse. It looks really stylish, the blue led adds a nice glow, and it's durable.
