Avoid this clock!

User Rating: Disappointing
Pros:Easy to read numbers, Day/date feature, Sets time instantly,
Cons:Small alarm buttons/radio dials, kept setting wrong time
The Bottom Line: I don't recommend this particular model because of its seemingly unreliable time keeping ability
I bought this clock because my neighborhood suffers from frequent power outages during inclimate weather. Having a clock that sets itself via the WWVB atomic clock is handy as opposed to getting up in the middle of the night when the power is restored and trying to find out the actual time and resetting your clock.

When i bought this clock i was amazed at how fast it set itself. It had set the correct time and date within a few seconds. Unlike the first generation of atomic clocks that emerson came out with that had an annoying antennea and took several hours to acquire the signal (in some places this process can take days). I really liked the large numbers that made it easy to read from across the room. Having the date and day offset in the corner of the display was a nice feature to have. The alarm worked well as with the radio although the buttons to set alarm were very small and placed too close together. The radio controls incorporate small recessed dials that are not very user friendly.
Then one day, out of the clear blue it decided to develop a mind of its own and it set itself 14 minutes fast. I unplugged the clock and plugged it back in and it continued to set itself 14 minutes past the actual time. I called emersons customer service line and told them what happened and they said there must have been a malfunction with the WWVB atomic clock and to give it a few days. I turned on my short wave radio to the station that broadcasts the WWVB time and it said it was 9:17, my emerson clock said it was 9:31. This clock gives you the option to set your own time if you dont want to go by the atomic clock. I set the correct time manually, and within an hour it was back to running 14 minutes fast. I finally took the clock back to the place of purchase exchanged it for a new one. The new clock didn't even work at all. It just read 18:88 on the time display. I took that one back and finally got my money back.
In all due fairness to Emerson, I have had no problems with any of there products before. I still own the first generation atomic clock they came out with (model CKA1000) in 1999. It still shows the accurate time consistently. I am just very diasappointed with this particular model and the experience i had with it.
