Cons: Unstoppable humming, Frequent head cleaning is necessary
The Bottom Line: If a constant humming noise is something that would bother you avoid being in the same room as this vcr altogether, otherwise, it's a great buy

Last year right after I got married there was a period of about two weeks during which i practically lived in stores such as Target, Wal-Mart, and the like. It was pretty hectic but I needed all kinds of new things to furnish my new apartment. One of which was a vcr. After shopping around I eventually ended up with the Emerson. I had been warned by a friend that there was a constant humming that his had been emitting but I assumed that his was just defective or that perhaps there was some other appliance connected to his entertainment center that was incompatible. I guess I was wrong.
The vcr is not bad at all. It functions very well aside from the humming and that the heads are prone to need frequent cleaning. It has all the things most people look for such as a built in clock for displaying the time as well as for timed recording. It has a fully functional universal remote control. (although I'm not sure if it works for most tvs and cable boxes, it is not compatible with my Magnavox tv) Good speed for rewinding is another feature that I have been pleased with.
All in all it's a pretty good vcr. You just have to turn it off when there is no other background sound to drown out the hum. Overall I cannot recommend this product because it is so much of a hassle dealing with the unwanted noise, but if such a thing does not bother you then you would probably consider it a great buy.
