| reginahitch's Full Review: Emerson EWC0902 9 inch TV/VCR Combo TV |
Well...This was purchased at Wal-Mart about three years ago. It has gone back and forth to Oklahoma twice (we are in NE Arizona), Phoenix, Tucson, Flagstaff many times. We purchased a case with it that has handles and stuff that you can hook to the back of the seats and let the kids watch TV in the back while the adults in the car can still hold a decent conversation.
So we paid about $100 for this thing, and the case was about $30 at WalMart. IT does have the capacity to play VHS tapes and I have never had any issue with that function. It has video and audio input ports so you can hook up a playstation or other gaming device, or a CD player, so that is nice.
It has both an AC cord and a cigarette lighter adapter so it can be plugged in at home as well as in the car, which is also quite nice when you get to Aunt Bertha's house and the kids have had enough cheek pinching and want to go hide in a corner and finish their traveling movies. The cord is only 40 inches long, which limits where you can sit this unit, but I suppose that is a standard. The cig. adapter is a little longer, so it reaches into the back seat.
It has great volume capacity and can blare your ears out in the car if you don't control who has the remote control. Speaking of the remote, has anyone seen mine? It was really small and got lost fairly quickly, but since all the buttons are duplicated on the TV console, having a remote control is merely a convenience, not a necessity. That is particularly nice for me since our family thinks remotes are disposable and loses them frequently.
As you can see in the picture, the unit is black. It does not come in any other colors, but I suppose since it is probably used mostly in the car, I don't think we have to worry about matching home interior things. I actually like the way it looks, myself.
The picture is as crisp as you can expect from a 9" screen. Because of its small size, pictures don't get distorted or anything, so that is nice.
The buttons on the machine itself are channel up and down, volume up and down, Record, Play, stop/eject, rewind, fast forward, and power. It has spaces up front for earphones and the video and audio connections, though the power adapter is in the back. This is a pain if you keep yours in a case all the time, like I do. Even so, it only takes a minute to reach in and attach the adapter so you can plug it into the cigarette lighter.
All in all, this machine has been durable and plays well. It is loud enough and clear enough to be a good solution to family travel problems, like kids getting bored in the car. And it is small enough that it will fit in just about every vehicle, except maybe a mini cooper.
