The SmartSet technology is a bunch of crap. This system has no idea when daylight savings time is. Rather it is programmed into the chip, based on the current whim of Congress. Those of us who purchased earlier versions of the technology either have to toss the item out or reset it FOUR times a year to fool it into giving the right time. That kind of hassle is not why one would be interested in this kind of clock in the first place. You want the correct time, right? And, you dont want to have to be in charge of that.

This technology should be called DumbSet !!
Also, if you live in an area that doesnt go on daylight savings time, you will get the time change any how with DumbSet and you have to fool the clock by setting it to a different time zone in order to get the correct time displayed. What a joke.
If you want the time to be reliable, then avoid any type of hard wired conventions. The product you need is what is called an Atomic clock (which sets itself daily from radio signals from the U.S. Atomic clock). Unfortunately, there are rather limited styles available in clock radios. I dont understand why; perhaps the guts are more expensive. But now that we have all learned that daylight savings time is set by politicians and hence is not carved in stone, one would think there would be consumer demand for the solution that works, the Atomic clock.
p.s. I have a La Crosse Technology portable (battery powered) Atomic alarm clock and love it.
