Don't hate me. I am one of those rare females who grow very little hair on their legs. I shave my legs once every few months. But when I do, I like a very smooth feel. Ditto for my bikini line. Razor bumps don't appeal. After considering a number of hair removal methods I opted to purchase an epilator.
I bought the Gently Gold Caress by Emjoi. To my dismay it hurt, alot. So I never used it, after my initial painful attempts. When I heard the Emjoi company had come out with a new, less painful epilator called the Optima I was hesitant. But I decided to take the plunge after finding it at drugstore.com. I knew I could return it, if I didn't like it.
I am so glad I decided to buy it. The day UPS delivered it, I epilated away and within a short time had smooth silky legs and no pain!
The Optima is described by Emjoi as a ground breaking hair removal product. The epilation head features dual opposed tweezers. These tweezers get more hairs in the first pass than other types of epilators. And do so with a minimum of pain. I was delighted to feel barely a prickle as the epilator glided over my legs. The bikini line was more sensitive but with time that has become less so.
The Emjoi company recommends you take a warm shower to prepare your skin for epilation. They suggest you use a loofah (which is included with the Optima) to raise hairs so they can be more easily removed. I skipped the shower and did not have any problems. The hair came off easily. However, I do have very fine hair. Someone with coarser hair may want to loofah first.
After your skin is prepared, you hold the Optima at a 90 degree angle, pull the skin taut and glide in the direction of hair growth. With repeated use hair becomes finer and regrowth is slower. When you are finished you clean the unit with the small included brush.
The Optima comes only as a corded model. It is about the size of your palm, and shaped to fit the contours of your body. One very nice feature is the Emjoi company has also included a shaving attachment so you have a choice between shaving or epilation.
The padded travel case that comes with the Optima has slots for the epilator, razor head, cord, brush, and loofah. Its a nice case, but I would have liked an additional pouch for travel so I would not have to lug the whole box which is rather bulky.
Though the price is steeper than other epilators retailing for $99.95, it's a bargain when you consider how often you will use it, and how effective and comfortable it is.
My painfree, silky, no razor stubble legs highly recommend it!
