| swb's Full Review: Epiphone Pr-100 Acoustic Guitar |
The Epiphone PR-100 is a great budget model steel string acoustic guitar. My son purchased an ebony model and has been very pleased with its quality, sound and durability. This instrument has a large balanced bluesey sound that is very impressive for an instrument that can be purchased for much less than $200. You really can't go wrong with this guitar if you are looking for a instrument for a beginning student, or just want an inexpensive steel string guitar for playing in situations where you leave the good stuff home (i.e. camping, beach, vacations, etc.).
The Epiphone PR-100 plays very easily, and the instrument my son purchased needed not additional setup. The chrome tuners work smoothly, and hold pitch quite well. The neck feels comfortable and the Epiphone lifetime warranty insures that if anything goes wrong, Epiphone will take care of it. The instrument is very comfortable to hold either seated or standing and is very well suited for acoustic finger-picking, pop tunes, and blues.
For the most part, this instrument is played without amplification, but it does sound very good when played through my Crate GFX 15 amp using a Dean Markley Pro Mag pickup, and you can have a lot of fun using the built in effects i.e. reverb, flange, delay and chorus settings on the Crate amp (one of the best practice amps around!).
As always, play an instrument before you purchase it, and make sure it is what you need and want. But, for a budget guitar, the Epiphone PR 100 is a very sound choice.
