Beautiful Sound & Looks. Epi Does It Again!!!

Feb 3, 2004

Rated a Very Helpful Review

Pros:Versatile Sound, Beautiful Looks, Excellent Craftsmanship (except for the "e" logo on the pick guard).

Cons:"e" logo on the pick guard will come off if not fixed. That's All!!!

The Bottom Line: Gibson Quality at Epiphone Price!!! Don't be afraid to go Epi!!!!

This guitar exceeds all of my expectations. The twin NY Humbuckers can handle it all. From warm, clean rhythm to driven blues leads, the Sheraton gives you what you want and then some. Gibson sound and looks at less than half the price, you can't beat it!!! I've been looking for a semi-hollow archtop for years, but didn't find anything I liked, within my budget. I considered "The Dot", but was hesitant of the inconsistent craftsmanship I have heard about. After looking into the Sheraton, I figured it was worth the extra money. I'm quite happy with my choice. The gold hardware is solid, no major clicks or crunches when you switch pickups in mid - stream. The Volume / Tone pots are smooth. They have a little resistance, so if you bump it while you're playing, it stays put. The action suited my style, right out of the box; however, the tune - o - matic bridge lets you adjust it to your style. I highly recommend the matching Epi hardshell case. It fits like a glove, and will protect your investment. I can't say enough about the looks / craftsmanship of this axe. The only disappointment was the "e" logo on the pick guard, which isn't attached very well. Whatever glue Epi uses for this isn't working. The edges were coming up on the first day. Everything else about the guitar far compensates for this minor cosmetic flaw. The fretboard is gorgeous!! The head piece, beautiful and the body is without equal. The weight doesn't bother me, but I'm 6'3" / 250lbs. For smaller musicians, it might be an issue. The factory strings aren't the greatest, but what else is new??!! I play my Sheraton through a Behringer GX212 w/a Behringer 4 x 10 cabinet. It wails!!!! I have played 335's and Guild archtops. I believe my Sheraton is as good, if not better, for considerably less money. If you're looking for an excellent Archtop for under $700, Sheraton is your pick!!!!!
