The Bottom Line: So cheap for such good quality, and this is a reliable printer, though a tad slow.

| subseb's Full Review: Epson Stylus Photo 830U InkJet Printer |
This is an entry level photo quality printer by Epson, but still manages to perform to a high standard. The printer is capable of producing borderless photo quality prints up to A4 size at at 5760 optimised resolution; in practice this printer can make very high quality prints that are similar in quality to much higher models such as the photo 935.
The unit uses a 6 colour system and features two cartridges, one for black and one for the colours. There are two USB ports one on the front of the unit and one on the rear and the unit uses a PSU adapter for power. The second USB port seems a little pointless unless your cable is short by 10 inches. The unit is in a silver black finish which looks smart and is neatly laid out. Setting up is extremely straight forward as this is a USB device and is plug and play compatible. I had no problems installing the software from the manufacturers CD and windows picked up the device automatically. The software that comes with the printer is extensive and there are an array of utilities tucked away in the print dialogue for maintenance and calibration, however you should rarely need to use these.
Above all I was impressed with the quality of the photos produced, text is produced in a similar manner. Prints speeds are somewhat slower than the quoted(8.5ppm) I'm sure this depends on the settings used, however this printer is slow compared to most. The printing is moderate in noise, with a small amount of vibration produced, I did notice that this unit does seem to use quite a lot of ink, this may be expected at photo quality however you can actually see your ink levels drop considerably in the print software.
Considering this printer an be found for £60 I still find it amazing that you can print out photo quality images for so little. Included are cartridges and a photo paper sample pack.
After using this printer for a few months I have not had any problems, occasionlay the USB connection may need to be reset but this is due to my other USB devices, and is far less painful and far quicker than parallel connections.]
Above all this printer is highly recommended as it does so much and works properly for a budget price.
