Jev04again's Full Review: Estee by Estee Lauder Super Cologne Spray 1.85oz
If I had to tell you what one of my particular weaknesses are, I’d have to tell you that it’s perfume. Okay – maybe it’s more like a passion, I can’t truly say!
For many of us, we consider at least one of our five senses – sight, hearing, taste, smell, and touch – to be exceptional. For me, it’s unquestionably smell. I will admit to being the first to remark if someone who’s near me smells good, and I’ll unabashedly ask them what perfume or cologne they’re wearing. I’ll tell you what… if that question doesn’t break the proverbial ice then nothing will! Trust me.
The sense of smell, defined as "Olfaction", is incredible because our memory holds on to scents that mean something to us. One whiff can take us back to our childhood and open up a whole world that we had set aside and had almost forgotten. Or it can take us back to yesterday as we walked on the beach and smelled that lovely, clean-salty ocean.
A few years ago, as I was walking through a Hudson’s Department store, I once again stopped by the Estée Lauder perfume counter. I’d always loved the Estée Lauder classic collection of perfumes and would manage to spray on a few of my favorites before leaving the store, including White Linen and Dazzling Silver, both lovely fragrances. But the one scent I always looked forward to spraying on was my favorite of all, Estée Super Cologne Spray.
Estée describes this perfume as classically feminine and sweetly floral; perfect for daytime or warmer weather… Every time I put this beautiful scent on my wrists, it’d take me back to days outside in the garden, specifically to our immense raspberry patch on a hot, summer day.
That’s what I said. The raspberry patch.
I could never quite figure out why; I mean, what’s a raspberry patch got to do with a perfume, right? Well, it wasn’t until recently that I found out why…
The Fragrance…
Estée Super Cologne Spray is brimming of beautiful floral notes – including jasmine, rose, and ylang-ylang. Jasmine is another scent that I have always loved dearly and have several different perfumes which include this gorgeous, sensuous fragrance. It also has a distinct earthy, warm woodsy scent that is balanced out perfectly with the floral notes. The other significant tones of this perfume include peach, citrus oils and, yes, the sparkle of raspberry. Mystery solved!
So I Took Some Home…
I finally decided that I had to have a bottle of the Estée Lauder Super Cologne Spray, so I purchased the 1.85 oz. bottle for $34.50. Kind of a frivolous purchase, but the helpful assistant assured me that it was well worth the cost, because only a tiny bit had to be used, making the bottle of cologne last a good, long time. And she was right! Today, there are a couple of other products that are available which are marvelous for "layering" the scent – Estée Moisturizing Body Lotion and Estée Perfumed Body Powder. I’m definitely considering purchasing them, as well.
The Estée Lauder Super Cologne Spray bottle is tear-dropped shaped with a long, silver cap. "Estée Super Cologne Spray" is written across the front of the bottle. The bottle is clear, and the perfume itself is a warm amber shade.
The Perfume Applying Secret…
When applying this perfume, it only has to be "spritzed" on lightly. Even though the Estée Lauder Super Cologne Spray has a lighter concentration of oils than some of the other pure fragrance sprays by Estée Lauder, it is a scent that will go on strong and stay with you all day and into the night. I believe the secret is to never spray perfume directly on you, but do the "spray into the air and walk under it" trick. Right ladies? It’s just the perfect balance and it saves everyone from having to be overpowered by too much perfume in the room.
Final Reflection…
When Mrs. Estée Lauder developed her second fragrance, Estée Lauder Super Cologne Spray, in 1968, it was a most excellent achievement. Her "signature" scent has become my own signature scent and I hope to always have a bottle of this in my collection.
Wearing this perfume makes me feel pretty and it’s that ultimate step to a complete feeling of elegance. You don’t need perfume to make you feel self-confident, but it sure does help to know that you’re wearing a pleasurable, flattering scent that will stay with you for a good long time.
