Our house isnt very old. Its only 15 just a teenager. But the kitchen flooring sheet vinyl is original. Any polyurethane, or other lacquered coating, is long gone. The vinyl is also textured. So it not only attracts dirt, but holds onto it for dear life.
The first couple years after we moved into our home (we are not the original owners), I spent one day a year scrubbing and Pine Sol-ing the floor to get it good and clean. This floor covers our foyer, eating area AND galley kitchen. Its pretty big when you get down on your hands and needs with a scrub brush. This activity would take me at least half a day with breaks. Once it was done and dry, the cleanliness lasted about 30 minutes tops. We had three dogs.
No matter what chemicals I used, or how much I scrubbed, wed have brown-soled socks at the end of the day.
Then one glorious day the same year my son was born, hubby and I happened to be at our local Sams Club and noticed the Eureka Enviro Steamer Deluxe 310. The price tag was $70. We started reading the claims on the box. The price was right so we took that baby home too.
The reason I mentioned the birth of our son is that any mother knows how when you have rug rats around your passable floors suddenly need to be literally clean enough to eat off of.
The reason why I immediately fell in love with the Eureka Enviro Steamer Deluxe 310 is that my husband likes to use it. When we got home he couldnt wait to take it out of the box and try it. He vacuumed, cleared out the kitchen and then set to work. The steam cleaner was extremely easy to put together. The only thing it needs is to put on one of the included cleaning pads and some tap water.
I watched as hubby began his quest for clean floors. He also gave me the quick run down. This is also simple. Basically after filling the unit with water as directed, you plug it in, turn it on and allow it to prep for a couple minutes. When you see steam, its ready to go. To clean, simply glide the steamer over your floor slowly not letting it stand in one spot for more than 3-5 seconds. If you have to pause to answer the phone or something, its got a special pad to rest it on.
The Eureka Enviro Steamer Deluxe 310 doesnt necessarily make quick work of cleaning floors. Only because you have to move slowly so that the steam releases trapped dirt. On the other hand, we dont have to go over the same spots over and over again. Also, since it cleans so well, we only use it about once a month or so. Well pull out our Swiffer for quick, in-between cleanings.
The only drawback is that the cleaning pads must be washed. But they can go in your regular laundry. Just be sure to line dry. Do NOT put them in the dryer as they may shrink. It IS nice that I dont have to buy any further supplies for the steamer.
The Eureka Enviro Steamer Deluxe 310 can NOT be used on wood flooring, or the vinyl square tiles (versus whole sheet) and obviously carpeting. Steam can warp wood or loosen any glues. You can check out the Eureka web site for complete information.
The one recommendation I have is to use distilled water instead of tap. This will prevent mineral deposits from collecting inside the unit. But after 2 years of use, we havent had any problems or other complaints with our steamer.
And I still love it because my husband still likes to clean the floors for me. What more could you ask for? How about whiter socks? Yup, we got em.
