It really is amazing how many different ways we have to listen to music these days. Remember, the whole way back to the late 1990's when you had a walkman and maybe the ability to burn a cd on your computer, but that was about it. Now we have portable everything, MP3 players, satellite radios, and a whole host of other neat devices that allow us to take our favorite tunes everywhere.
One of the neat devices is the Irock 400 FM Personal Radio. The 400FM is basically an add on device for MP3 players and other music devices that allows you to listen over any speaker system and with any tuner without the hassle of cords or the like. In other words, it simplifies everything and allows you to play the tunes as if you had a portable speaker in your hand. Does that make any sense?
Think of it this way: You have all your tunes on your MP3 player and you take off in the car to go run errands. You want to listen to the tunes, but not with the headphones on because you will surely be spotted by a cop and ticketed on the spot. You simply plug the 400FM into the headphone outlet and tune your car stereo to one of four different frequencies (88.1, 88.3, 88.5, or 88.7 FM) and you are on your way. Suddenly you have high fidelity full stereo sound.
You have the sound all from a device that is just 2.0" x 3.0" x 1.0" and has just one three inch long cord. Getting this to work could not be any easier and you will be amazed by the sound. Actually, you will not be amazed. The sound will be as good as any other sound that you hear on the car stereo or whatever stereo you choose to use it with. The 400FM will work with any portable device that has a headphone jack so it truly is an adaptable gadget. One thing to keep in mind as far as performance is that the sound is great when in or around a medium or large city, but I have struggled with reception when I am in the middle of who knows where. Keep this in mind if you live way outside of at least a medium sized city.
The 400FM runs on two AAA batteries, but also has a 12v DC power hook up and an adapter for your cars cigarette lighter. The batteries are pretty good and will last you for enough time that you will not complain. My initial batteries are still in the device and it has been a good two months of what I would call decent usage. The company says you will get 13 hours of battery juice. Other than that, there is not much to the device. There is an on/off switch on the front and red LCD lights that come on when the system is turned on.
On the negative side, I already mentioned that you want to live in a decent sized city. In addition, you will struggle with this in poor weather conditions- the type that may result in difficulty for your receiver anyway. The only other negative that I found is that the 400FM has a sensitive power button. I know, I am reaching. Yet it does seem to turn on or off with just a little brush.
I am a big fan of the Irock 400FM and highly recommend it to anyone looking for this sort of thing, or for those music enthusiasts around the world. I think you will be surprised by how well something that is so small and inexpensive can perform.
