Pros: features, control, pro-spec
Cons: meter now realtively basic. Plastic build. no dedicated aperture preview button.
The Bottom Line: A great used buy, a lot of camera for not much money.
Don't kick around though.

| papalazarou's Full Review: Canon EOS-A2 Film Camera |
I ran one of these machines for 7 years and have to say it almost converted me to Canon SLR's for ever.
Almost.
I bought mine brand new and never had any reliability problems with it at all, but then I always took great care of it. I've heard some horror storys about burst backs and broken dials. The build quality isn't great!.
It's solid enough for the enthusiast, I never quite saw the point of going the extra for the EOS 1n (as was the top spec model then) and even the 3 wasn't significantly better enough to upgrade.
The eye control was never great, i calibrated it, but wasn't enthused by it, I generally prefer MF anyway.
the main spec goes thusly:
1/8000th top shutter
Spot, Evaluative & Centre Weighted Metering.
6 Frames per second film advance.
Usable custom functions.
16 zone meter.
Meter linking to focus point.
5 point AF.
One thing I didn't like was the lack of a dedicated depth of field preview button, you can dial it in through a cf (12 as I recall) but this then ties up your AE lock button.
I had the vg-10 on mine and this mad eit look the dogs bollocks and handle llike a dream.
I do like canon (my digital is a powershot s40 and my camcorder an XM2) but I don't particularly like their SLR interface. It is easy to use, but not like a proper camera should be.
The dial system is better than that of the 3 and the I think, but I really missed the manual aperture ring (still available on AF Ae nikons & pentax).
Recommended:
Yes
Amount Paid (US$): 700 This Camera is a Good Choice if You Want Something... Flexible Enough for Enthusiasts
