The Canon A2/E camera is a super camera. An incredible number of features packed into a small light camera body. It has all the modes you need: programmed, aperture priority, shutter priority and special pictogram modes (turn the dial to the running icon and you're set for sports, turn it to the face and you're set for portraits). Even the programmed mode is great even for shooting Kodachrome due to the superb matrix metering.
I'm a photojournalist and this camera delivers fast motor drive speeds and has an almost silent rewind when put into the slower speed rewind mode. I've even used this camera for courtroom photography as it's about the closest you'll get to using a Leica in the noise department. Also great when shooting professional golf since the rewind won't be heard by some PGA pro golfer when in use.
The downside with this camera is that the Command Dial always breaks under constant use. Most people won't encounter this problem but pros using the camera a lot and turning the Command Dial every day can expect it to break. It will lose the click-stop positions and spin freely after awhile (there are tiny plastic pins inside the dial that shear-off under the constant use).
The 2nd downside when used heavily is the lens release button tends to break-off. Even when it does break-off you can still release the lens but it still is a poor design.
As a professional I find the eye-controlled focus to be a bit of a gimmick and usually have it turned-off.
I know many pros that use the A2/A2E body and they all have encountered the above two problems. If you really need a 'pro' quality camera get the EOS 1v which is a hockey puck and can take the daily grind of pro use. If you aren't a heavy daily shooter the A2 will work for you at a better price than the 1v.
