The first thing I need to say about this camera is that I totally trust the RGB metering system. For my style of shooting (fashion, concerts, sports) it has never let me down. This allows me to shoot faster because it gives me one less thing to worry about. Coupled with the 8fps shooting rate, dynamic autofocus spread over 5 sensors, titanium top and bottom plates, weatherized seals, 150,000 cycle shutter, removable finder, etc etc...I'm stoked!
Second, alot (well, all really) of the people that see this camera and handle it for the first time think it's too big and heavy. Obviously never handled a pre-D1 digital SLR camera. Bah! It's good training! All depends on whether you think the glass is half empty or half full.
I use my F5's with the 80-200/2.8 AFS and 300/2.8 AFS regularly and have no problem lugging them around...but then, I'm used to lugging a Mamiya RZ-67 Pro II complete with winder, prism finder, and lens. I say, "Get used to it!".
The one small gripe I have with the camera is that it's hard to see the autofocus sensor indicators during dark conditions such as concerts. It would be handy to have the red lighted focus sensors of the F100 instead. Nikon claims that pro's would lose their night vision if they had red lights in there..Bah!
Also, for best operation I highly recommend using the F5 with it's specially designed MN-30 NiMh rechargeable battery pack.
All in all, for the ultimate in 35mm film cameras, get the F5. Highly recommended.
