Pros: Efficient, hidden behind cabinetry, easy to operate and quiet.
Cons: Expensive (but worth it) and a "normal" wash needs to be rinsed.
The Bottom Line: With water, energy and soap savings because of efficiency, it will pay for itself. Worth every penny and makes dish washing a pleasure.

| gonewithwind's Full Review: Fisher and Paykel DS-603 24 in. Built-in Dishwashe... |
... after you have two of these sleek, integrated dish drawers installed. I am a recent convert to this and I can tell you that having two dish drawers made me actually enjoy doing dishes.
When my husband and I recently decided to do the gourmet kitchen of our dreams (and, yes, we both are excellent cooks) we had the opportunity to install all of the whistles and bells that we had longed to own. For the dishwasher choices, we looked at Miele and KitchenAid ... both excellent brands that offered some good features. Then, our appliance salesman showed us the Fisher & Paykel, told us a few of the advantages and we stopped looking further. I have since learned that everything promised by the salesman was true.
First of all, rather than having one dishwasher, I have two half dishwashers, each controlled independently. I can fill one with things that need light washing (even crystal!) and the other with heavy duty. I could do a quick wash (like I did when I unpacked my dishes when the kitchen was complete) or I can do one that sterilizes if I had a baby. Each dishwasher uses just half the soap, energy and water for its load. Now, rather than feeling guilty about washing a small load, I power it up sometimes using just one drawer on a light day. And on Sundays, I do a single drawer after brunch and two drawers after a larger supper.
And the Fisher & Paykel is so easy to operate!. The controls that change the type of cycle are hidden right inside the drawer of the integrated. You gently touch the pad to increase the settings from "heavy" to "normal" to "fast" "delicate" to "rinse" and back again. Each of these cycles is available an "economy" setting that doesn't include a heat dry if desired. After loading powder soap (the only kind to be used) in the dispenser, a simple touch on the outside starts the cycle. Another touch can also stop it.
And I have to tell you that I love having the integrated drawers. When you get this feature, you order cabinet fronts and handles from your cabinet manufacturer. I've had people actually say, "you opted for no dishwasher?" until I pull out one of my drawers. One could also decide to have one dish drawer on one side of the sink with a regular drawer below (only having a half size dishwasher) and one could have another on the other side; with this configuration, you wouldn't have to bend down ever to load your dishwasher!
I have found that in using the "normal" cycle that you have to rinse your dishes off pretty well, but that is how I have always done my dishes. The "normal" cycle is about an hour and is relatively quiet ... just a low hum to let you know that an efficient appliance is working.
Another lovely thing is that the Fisher & Paykel is the same 24" wide as other dishwashers. That way, you can still install dish drawers in place of your old dishwasher or vice versa. But I can tell you having tried dish drawers that I will never go back to the standard dishwasher, even at a greatly reduced price. The Fisher & Paykel is worth it!.
