| ormerlin's Full Review: Fisher and Paykel GWL11 Top Load Washer |
This is one of those products you walk into the store and know absolutely nothing about, including the company who makes it. You are expecting to see Maytag, Whirlpool, Frigidaire, etc. When you look at those machines, then the Fisher & Paykel, you notice something, and that is that things make sense. I went into the store, dead set on looking at the "old faithful" of washers and dryers, but walked out with both a washer and dryer from Fisher and Paykel. The salesperson was very enthusiastic about the product, and pointed out all of the key features that make this a great machine, and he wasn't wrong.
People will compare this washer to the front-load crowd, because it is in the same energy efficient group with them. I personally prefer a top-load, because it is easier for me to work with. This may not be the case for others, but if you prefer a top-load, you cannot go wrong with this washer. You can put a king comforter in it with no problem, and it comes out clean. I heard of people saying it has an agitator, so it is going to be worse on your clothes. I watched this thing wash, and it does not "beat" your clothes like the old Maytag washers did. It actually works a lot like a front load does, by moving the water through the clothes. The washer is very quiet in the wash cycle, but does get louder when it spins. It sounds a bit like a plane taking off on the runway, but you don't even notice after a few loads through it. You have to consider it is spinning at 1000 rpm to extract water out of your clothes. If you have ever been to a laundromat, you probably have seen one of those "Extractor" machines, and this does that extract thing to your clothes. They come out very clean, and also more damp than wet. This allows the dryer (mine has a moisture sensor) to sense when the clothes are dry. This is less time, due to the fact they are not as wet going in. My dryer will actually finish at the same time, or before my washer does with the next load.
The control panel is a little different than what you are used to. Instead of all the buttons and knobs, you have a flat control panel to work with. It does look a little confusing at first, but when you really look at it, it is quite simple. You just have your normal settings, but in a different way. It even has an automatic water level, so you don't even have to set that, unless you want to. Your soap goes down the middle of the agitator, which I have found very nice to use. One of the nicest things is taking your clean clothes out, and the stainless drum shining every single time, from having all the clothes and soap go through it.
I cannot say enough good about my experience with this washer. They come with 2 years for warranty coverage, and that was twice what most were offering. My local store will service if there are any problems, but with a DC motor and no transmission or clutch, I don't foresee any problems.
The reviewer who said you will become a spokesperson for the company couldn't be any more true. I am seriously looking at other appliances from Fisher & Paykel, because of my great service from my new washer.
