| janana's Full Review: Fisher and Paykel GWL11 Top Load Washer |
We've had this washer for three months, and love it!
A high priority for us was a washer that uses as little water as possible, as water is very expensive here. I was scared off of front-loaders after reading numerous owner reviews mentioning water seeping into inner parts and creating a permanent stinkiness in the washer. This Fisher-Paykel model is one of (if not the) most water-savvy top-load washers.
I had done all my research before I walked into a store, and was convinced this was the best. I have to admit, though, I was taken aback by how plastic the model looks from the outside. The lid is plastic, and the control panel... well, we're used to zoomy electronic gadgets being silver, grey or black, but this one is baby blue and teal!
But the thing is, this washer is made of metal where it counts, and uses plastic where it doesn't. I didn't particularly care about having electronic controls, but now that I've been using it for three months, I love how easy they are to use. They're also easy to wipe clean.
I never would've thought that a washer could make the laundry chore easier, but this one really does. Clothes spend more time in the washer but a LOT less time in the drier (because the clothes come out of the fast-spin Fisher-Paykel barely damp), so you can just keep cycling loads on through, without wet clothes sitting in the washer waiting for the dryer to get done. Also, the tub is bigger than my old washer, so I can wash more at a time. So with the high-speed spin and the large capacity, the laundry chore gets done faster! And I LOVE that!
When we first got the washer, I had a question about use. I emailed the company w/ my question and received a helpful response within a day or two.
My two complaints: First, I washed a pair of my sons heavily soiled jeans (worn while playing paintball), and they still had a couple of grungy spots when they came out. In fairness to the product, though, I forgot to choose the "heavy duty" cycle option. Secondly, when the wash is done, the machine makes a polite little "ding, ding, ding." This is a step up, mind you, as my old washer didn't even have that. But now that I'm spoiled with the ding, I wish it had an option for a louder buzzer so I could hear it when I'm upstairs. Oh, well!
In summary, here are the things I love about this washer:
- Laundry gets done faster (more time in the washer but much less in the drier).
- Uses less water than most top loaders, saving us money on water bills.
- Good-size capacity tub, made of steel.
- Controls are easy to understand and use.
- Pre-set option that works for most loads means just pushing two buttons and you're good to go.
- Lots of options in load size, wash temp, spin speed, etc. let you customize for any specific laundry job.
