The Bottom Line: I would recommend this washer based upon its engineering, features and early experiences.

| tobev's Full Review: Fisher and Paykel GWL11 Top Load Washer |
After 10 years, our Kenmore top loader bit the dust with a bad transmission and a chipped porcelain tub. After researching epinions and other web sites, the design of the Fisher and Paykel (Direct drive variable speed motor and stainless steel tub)intrigued us, combined with the economy of a front loader.
Immediately after delivery, we put the washer through its paces. The first thing we noticed was the amount of suds created in the tub with about half as much soap. Secondly, the spinning action dried the clothes to the point that our dryer took less time and was done the same time the next load was finished washing. (The dryer has a moisture sensor).
It is quieter than our previous washer. Other reviews mention the noise of a jet taking off, when it goes in the spin cycle. Yes it has that type of sound, but the volume is very low. It is like being many miles away from the airport versus standing on the runway. The washer is on the same floor as our family room. We can comfortably watch TV without being annoyed by the washer running.
Finally the direct drive design and the auto load balance provides a smooth operation. Our last washer did not have an out of balance correction. This meant the washer would knock and walk when out of balance. We are able to wash a large load of jeans, using most of the 3.7 cubic feet of space, without any out of balance problems.
It is too soon to determine the economy from energy savings or reliability of this product. However, if you go by the energy guides provided with the units we went from a $1000+ a year predicted energy usage to $207 a year. We are still using less detergent and considerably less water per load.
We are pleased with our purchase.
