An update after owning this for almost two years

Pros: It lasted a little over a year before dying

Cons: Mediocre overall results; another dead consumer electronics item for the landfill

The Bottom Line: After using this camera enough to really get to know it I cannot recommend it.

I've come back to change my review after owning this camera for close to two years. I can now base my review more along the lines of a 'longterm test drive' instead of 'first impressions'.

My camera is dead. It died of a "Focus Error". There is nothing really to be done about it as a repair costs more than the camera at this point.

Before it died I took many, many photos with fair to middling results. It was nice for well-lit stills. No good at all for sports photography. Decent for night shots (although color shifting was notable but not surprising).

As time went on the ability of the camera to focus in auto mode noticeably deteriorated.

Right from new it would 'hang' and have be re-booted (open battery case and momentarily slide batteries out). This is apparently a known problem as the company references it in troubleshooting.

The time lag between shots is way too long. I didn't realize how BAD it was until I used my sister's Kodak which blew this Fuji away.

My first impressions, like my early photos, were favorable. I still like the way the camera feels in my hand. I took a lot of photos with it, albeit with mixed results. I own and shot thousands of photos with my workhorse Minolta X-700 SLR. While not a high end camera, and legacy technology in comparison, the Minolta is head and shoulders over this camera in terms of consistent results.

Right now I’m in the market for a replacement digital camera. I can’t see spending any serious coin on another Fuji product.
