2) Monitor frame needs another separating bumper
The Bottom Line: Good comptuer; few minor and not so minor design flaws. Get a warranty longer than a year.

| morrisjm's Full Review: Fujitsu LIFEBOOK S-2010 (FPCM40541) PC Notebook |
I've had mine for about 1.5 years now; it's a good computer with higher quality build/case quality than you would get from a dell or gateway and perhaps even as good as an IBM and you don't have to deal with the little ultranav taking up extra space. It's a good size, bigger than a Thinkpad X series (and you always have your CDROM) and smaller than a T40 with the same functionality.
There were two design flaws to make note of: 1) There should be one more bumper on the midway up the monitor. Becaue there isn't, there is a lot of contact between the monitor frame and the case, which scratched up both of them. Only minor cosmetic damage. 2) This is a more funcional problem: the power cord jack on the body of the laptop is separating from the motherboard. I now have to jiggle the power cord to find the right spot where it connects and soon will have to try to solder it back on, which is at the very least a pain if it doesn't kill the motherboard entirely. So that sucks. Fujitsu says the newer ones have a different design, but that doesn't help me much. So pull your power cord out carefully, eh? You might even want to consider glueing (with 2-part epoxy, perhaps) the gap around the power socket to the chassis to reinforce it -- but I'm not liable if you hose up your computer in the process.
The fan is a little loud if you're planning on running CPU-intense apps in a quiet place (e.g., playing games in the middle of class) but not really a bother. I installed linux on it but the fan was always on full-tilt, which proved unworkable.
I'd probably buy it again, but I'd get a two-year warranty :^)
