Pros: Microwave works OK.
Cons: Service from GE is terrible and things do break.
We've had this microwave for just under 4 years. So far the microwave funtion and what oven funtions we've used are OK. The fan is very loud but seems to do what it is supposed to do. The microwave functions are very easy to use. Some of the other functions (speed cook, etc.) are a little tougher to figure out unless you have instructions in hand. The lower light burned out pretty quick. The cavity light just burned out (I've had cheaper micros for 20 years without that happening). Were told by local service and GE that it could only be replaced by a technician (local tech said the unit had to be removed from cabinet). GE was very unhelpful when I called to ask for help since I didn't want to pay for service every 4 years to replace a bulb. (!!) After reading other reviews I see that this is very common and we'll be lucky if that's the worst that happens. Found a great site online and replaced it with a $5.00 bulb from hardware store. Had I read reviews before I bought and knowing what I know now, I would've chosen something else. Other issues with other GE products in kitchen. Would think twice about GE period.
Was asked why I bought it. Mostly because I thought it would give me the advantages of a 2nd oven without the space a 2nd oven would take. As it turns out, the oven functions are more complicated than a regular oven. There is a cheat sheet provided, but it does take a little time to figure which instructions go with which oven function. If I have enough cooking going that I need a second oven then deciphering instructions is not what I want to be doing. I will admit I also bought for looks to blend with a new kitchen & new appliances. If you will actually use the oven functions they work almost as well as regular oven but unless you do a lot of large meals and/or entertaining you probably won't need the extras. Some of the problems that require service calls take much of the thrill out of it.
