I'm sad to say, that after 15 years of faithful service, my dearly beloved range died a peaceful death. It's untimely demise occurred a few weeks prior to Christmas this year. Right smack in the middle of Holiday baking time!!! Every Christmas, in addition to lots of cookies, I make a big batch of homemade caramel. I have become known for my caramel, and now receive special requests for it. So being without a stove and the prospect of using an unfamiliar one to make my caramel and cookies was a bit stressful to say the least.

I did my research. I surfed the web, checked Epinions, talked to friends and family, visited stores in person and read, and read and read. Finally, I found the one range that had all the features I wanted, and was worthy of my caramel! The GE Profile 30" Slide-In Electric Range
I wanted a Range that would slide-in to the existing spot my old one left. Slide-In meaning that there are no finished sides on this range, so you wouldn't want this slide-in style if you have one or both sides of Range showing.
I also wanted a larger oven for baking. My previous oven only fit two racks. The GE was much large inside. It fit three racks (Approximate Dimensions(HxDxW)36 1/4 in x 27 1/2 in x 31 1/4 in.). I absolutely love it for baking cookies! The first batches I made this Christmas, sold me on the oven forever! I was able to fit three average sized cookie sheets in at one time (16 on a tray), 4 dozen cookies at once!!! What a time saver!
A Convection feature was something new to me, but after more research, something I wanted. This oven has three settings: 1) The Precise Air Convection System delivers even air and heat circulation for superior baking and roasting results. 2)The Convection Bake (Multi-Rack) Provides ideal convection baking for multiple racks of food, ensuring superb results. 3) The Convection Roast Provides even cooking and consistent results, roasting meats up to 25% faster than a conventional oven.
I used the Convection Bake (Multi-Rack) setting, and without turning or switching trays between racks, I ended up with three racks of perfectly browned, evenly cooked cookies!!! I was so excited, I was dragging the neighbors in to check it out!
Being a slob at heart, another important feature for me was the cooktop. I had always had an electric range with those horrible to clean, drip trays. I'm embarrassed to say, that I usually just tossed them and bought new ones once a month because they were too far gone to clean! I really wanted a smooth, glass cooktop.
I was afraid of scratching it, or destroying it with my sloppy cooking, but they are more durable then I thought. I love it! I have spilled, splashed, dripped, dropped, you name it...and it cleans up with the special cleaner (Ceramabrite) they recommend with no problem. You can buy the cleaner and special scrubbing sponges at Home Depot for approx. $6-7. and it lasts a really long time. You only use a drop. Then rub it in with the sponge, and wipe clean with a paper towel. If you really burnt something on (like I do often...you can also purchase a razor blade scraper (or just use a razor blade carefully), and it scrapes right off.
I like the configuration of the burners also. There is an average sized burner front and back on the left side with a bridge in between them for large griddles or oversized pots. The right side has a two size burner on the front for small or large pots and another average sized one in the rear with a warm setting on it. There is even another area in the center of the range specifically called the "warm-zone" for keeping cooked food hot until ready to serve. Between this feature, and the oven which will bake or roast and switch to warm after the designated time is up, my husband can actually have a hot dinner no matter when he gets home.
The only recommendation I would make regarding the smooth cooktop is to make sure you use good quality cookware. I happen to already have AllClad stainless pots, so I had no problem, but I've heard of people having problems with food burning, or not cooking evenly with cheap pots and pans that don't have flat bottoms.
This model also has a proof feature, which is great if you do any yeast dough or bread baking. Especially here in Florida, where the air conditioner is on most of the time, it was hard to get my dough to rise in a warm spot. Now I just set the oven to "Proof", and put my covered bowl of dough in, and it rises wonderfully!
I'll try to quickly list the remaining features: Of course this terrific Range is self-cleaning. It has a nice big viewing window and bright light to see what your baking. It has a temperature probe. You can actually attach this probe to the inside of the oven and the other end goes in your meat. You set the temperature you want the meat to be, and the oven automatically shuts off when it reaches that temp. No more overcooked, dried out roasts! There is a large storage drawer below the oven. The control knobs are on the front of the oven, no reaching over hot food. The touch pad is glass, so is easy to clean. Oh, and last but not least, the oven door has a sturdy, substantial handle that feels very well made. The heavy feeling door opens with ease.
I choose stainless steel, with a black cooktop, but the model also comes in True White, True Bisque, or Black on Black.
In case you can't tell by now...I LOVE MY NEW RANGE!!! Yes, I think it is a lot to spend on a stove, but when I thought about how many meals I'll be cooking, and how much time I spend using this appliance, and how many years I'll be using it...it didn't make sense to cut corners here.
I would highly recommend this Range to anyone who loves to cook.
I hope this review was helpful!
