| glove311's Full Review: Gateway PLSM42TV 42 in. EDTV-Ready TV |
I saw this television displayed at my local Gateway country store. I was blown away by the picture. I had to have it.
When I got mine delivered. I was blown away....by the fact that I have a 5 inch portable black & white television that has a better picture.
The first day I got it I watched it for a couple hours and the picture began going out. I spoke with tech support who suggested my display problems were related to the tv being plugged into a surge protector. After plugging directly into the socket the problem did not happen again, but this still seems odd to me. Hope there are no power surges.
About a week later the sound began shorting out followed by the on-screen display menu not working. Now none of the buttons on the front of the tv work, and only the PIP and power buttons work on the remote. There is suppose to be someone at my house today to install new sound and on-screen display boards. This is 3 tech support calls later, 6 different tech support reps, a couple hours on the telephone, 2 different occasions when tech support "Promised" to call me back the next day to schedule a tech to come to the house, and who knows how many times being asked "Have you tried to turn the tv off and then back on to see if that solves the problems?" Not to mention, two weeks watching a $3,000 tv that sometimes had sound, and sometimes didn't.
I will NEVER buy a single thing from Gateway again.
