We were gifted with a George Foreman griddle a few months ago. It did not take us long to realize that this appliance is a real performer!
George Foreman has a line of low-fat cooking appliances for indoor use by the home cook. They are designed to direct grease away from the food while it is cooking as well as minimize the amount of fat needed for the cooking process. The focus of these appliance has been low-cooking using quality qppliances.
Packaging: Unfortunately I put the original box in the recycle bin a couple of months back so I cannot describe it to you. I recall the griddle can packaged in a box with the ends of the griddle protected by styrofoam.
What's in the Box: The contents of the box include the one piece griddle, drip tray, service tray, power cord with adjustable temperature control and a spatula.
Measurements: The overall griddle measures 27 x 15 inches and stands 4 inches high. The cooking surface is 21 x 11 inches.
Weight: Shipping weight is 10 lbs. Actual weight is about 7 lbs.
Price: Ours was a gift. It is currently retailing at about $70 US.
Features: The griddle is non stick with cool-to touch handles. There is a broad drip channel for fat drainage and raised backstop for food removal. The griddle is fully immersible while the spatula, service tray and drip catcher are dishwasher safe, top rack. The griddle does have a one year warranty under normal household use.
Cost of operation: This griddle is 1500 W so at our electric rates costs us 18¢ per hour to operate in comparison to the stove burner/griddle cartridge for our stove at 1900 W (22¢ per hour) or the large stove burner at 2100 W (24¢ per hour).
Performance: I will tell you right off the bat that the spatula is totally useless for anything other than the kids' toybox. That is about the only negative thing I have to say about this griddle. The first test of this griddle was cooking bacon and eggs for 4 adults and 1 toddler. I was so impressed that I decided to not buy the griddle plates for the grill cartridge on my stove! What I really like is I can cook more food in less time using less electricity. The second test was pancakes and all I can say is oh my did this griddle ever out perform! The pancakes were nice and fluffy, cooked to perfection. The even heat this griddle provides is a real asset. There are no cold spots so all the food cooks evenly at the same time. This makes the griddle an ideal cooking appliance when cooking for a few people. I recently tested out the griddle making homemade English muffins. Again I was not disappointed! The griddle performed exactly as expected with excellent results. The griddle is heavy enough it does not shift when you are trying to remove food. Clean-up is a as simple as washing and drying. I don't even bother putting the trays in the dishwasher. I just hand wash them.
The bottom line: I honestly cannot say enough good things about this quality made kitchen appliance. I love it! The only problem some users may have is the size for storage when not in use if storage is at a premium. I don't have that problem but it is something to consider.
