Pros:a fantastic guitar for clean sounds
Cons:don't know any
The Bottom Line: For jazz, bop, western swing guitarist that want a sound a little different, original, perfect. For truly (but also wild playing!!) gentlemen!!
Ok fellow guitarist, I'm a pure be bopper, but I like western swing too, people like Danny Gatton, Chet Atkins, Jimmy Bryant and so on. I don't call their music country beacause to me it isn't: it's simply great jazz with a different, more white rythmn. But it's actually jazz, improvised music. This is a great guitar for Jazz and western swing. It rips through distortion and crunch sounds if you want to try (sure not as a Jackson shred machine or a Steve vai tool anyway), but it's not intended for that purpouse. I tried the guitar (I actually don't own it, but I own a wide collection of priced vintage jazz guitars) with a 1969 Fender Vibrolux amp equipped with a 15" JBL cone. Well it was pure fun! The neck was truly fantastic, incredibly easy to play all over, in every position from first fret to last. The sound was FAAANTASTIC, great basses, great treble too, not as it happens with a lot of jazz guitars where you have muddy lows and inaudible or frightening highs. The notes were all defined, clear, powerful, emotional! truly inspiring, guess the amp was really the right one anyway! The guitar was well crafted, with great attention to details, more than on some Gibson custom shop instruments! Think I'm gonna buy one, maybe selling another one! I really fell in love with the neck, but controls were really smart, with the master volume placed just confortable! Perfect for solos, comping, nuances, whatever. Recently I have bought a Gibson custom shop that was not so good: now thanks to Chet I'm in love with Gibson again!! Just few words: gorgeous appearance, did you notice the other guard you have under your arm... lovely, very '50's to me! Buy one if you're a jazz or a western swing player!!
