The new one's VS a bowl of mud! (Reply to this comment)
by madarnell
I spent 2 1/2 hours last night at the guitar dealer.
I played 2 different Gibson 335's & a Epiphone Sheraton#2.
Believe it or not I actually liked the Sheraton better than either one of the ES335's. I thought the ES335's sounded kind of muddy.(keep in mind my Gibson reference point is my 1970 all stock Gibson Les Paul "Black Beauty". And that guitar's tone is clean & full with that awesome "chimy in the midle pick-up sound".)
I was really shocked, I had a hard time getting any kind of clarity out of them. I felt that the Sheraton played good, looked good and just sounded better. Is this normal?
I played everything through a Fender Blues "junior" amp.(this is the same amp I use in the studio & gigging in my R&B/Blues band,so I know how stuff is suppose to sound through that amp.)
The ES335's had such a hot output I couldn't keep the tube amp from breaking up. What's the difference between the 335 & Sheraton? Don't they have the same pickups? If so they sure sounded different.
I don't feel the new stuff now days is worth what they are asking for them.

Thanks for reading. I don't much care for the Paul--a little to heavy and clunky for me. My preferred utility instrument is the SG Standard, it sounds as good as the Paul, but is easier to wear on stage for 4 hours,

But I have to talk my wife in to letting me buy a Les Paul Custom first.
I'm interested to hear your views on LP's.
