Pros: Quality, tone, elec pickup
Cons: Maybe the finish, gig bag is a cheapy
I've been playing the Hound Dog for about 6 months now so I feel good about writing this. This is an EXCELLENT instrument. Don't let anybody tell you that the imports sound just as good for half the price. I've seen the HD taken apart and l've seen the interior of an import, there is just no comparison. The workmanship and quality of the wood is so superior in the Gibson you are definitely getting what you pay for. The sound is there also, it's not a Beard, but you're not paying 3G either. I have not heard an import that comes close, even one with a quarterman doesn't have the richness of tone the HD has. The other thing that really stood out to me is that when you look at an import from the side, you will see a dramatic bow in the neck, not with the HD, the neck is true and parallel to the strings. I happen to like the finish, not many people do I guess. I play on stage regularly so the "imperfect" finish makes no dif to me. The pickup works well also, I just run it through an acoustic amp and it sounds great. The main con to me was the cheap gig bag, the first thing I did was order a dobro hard case, one with the arched top for the cone. I would rather see them put a quarterman in at the factory and keep the bag.
