| SHORTLAD2000's Full Review: ATI RAGE FURY MAXX, (64 MB) AGP Video Card |
My colleagues and i tested this card in several different spec machines to see how it performed. We first ran a test on the card in a AMD K6 500 with 128 megs of ram on a shuttle board. Its performance was glitchy while running Flight sim 2000 and GP3, but DVD was very good. We then tested it on a AMD Thunderbird 800 with 256 megs of ram. The card had an argument with the AWE64 sound card and failed to run at all. We removed the sound card and replaced it with a standard 16 bit Soundblaster. It loaded ok then but there were problems selecting high graphics modes such as 1600x1200 etc. It was quite obvious the video card did not like this machine. We then tested it in a Compaq deskpro Pentium 111 450 but were suprised to find it wouldn't fit in the machine at all. Finally we tested it on a AMD K62 300 with 128 megs of ram on a Via board. We performed this test just to see if it would run on a low spec machine. DVD playback was very good. It performed well while running M25 Racer but failed to perform well on GP3.
We recommend if you buy this card that you have a high spec machine with agpx2\x4 and not a AWE64 sound card in with it. We have had problems with this sound card before on a ATI 128 all in wonder, Irq settings being the culprit (irq 5 and irq 11).All the tests were under Windows 98 which is the only system you can run this card under. Be careful when buying, it is a very temperamental piece of kit.
