| TerranEmpire's Full Review: ATI RAGE FURY MAXX, (64 MB) AGP Video Card |
I bought a ATI Rage Fury MAXX for my new custom computer system and it became the center of problems that led to hours troubleshooting never fixed the problem. This "Great" card never worked right (I bought it brand new) so I returned and bought a Diamond Viper II (AGP 4x w/ 32MB RAM). The difference between these two video cards is immense:
ATI Rage Fury MAXX PROS/CONS
PROS:
1) MEMORY - the video board has 64MB of RAM, but it doesn't matter if the video card doesn't work right.
CONS:
1) RELIABILITY - THIS BOARD IS JUNK. Avoid it if possible. A brand new video board should work right out of the box when all of the instructions are followed to the letter.
2) MANUALS - The paperwork and manuals that come with this card are TERRIBLE! They are not straight forward and do not appear to have been written by someone who speaks English as a first or second language! They were not helpful at all in trying to fix the problem.
3) CUSTOMER SERVICE - DOES NOT EXIST! This IS NOT an American company and their North American customer support appears to be an after thought. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND BUYING A VIDEO BOARD FROM A DOMESTIC MANUFACTURER - Diamond, Creative, etc.
4) EASY OF USE - A video board should be installed easily. THIS BOARD IS A PAIN IN THE NECK THAT DOESN'T WORK WITH INDUSTRY STANDARD EQUIPMENT (Pentium III, Creative Soundblaster, HP CD-ROM, etc.).
RECOMMENDATION: Avoid this video board at all costs. I ended up buying the Diamond VIPER II and installed it myself. It was a piece of cake to install and it has worked flawlessly since.
