| Terran82's Full Review: Matrox Millennium G400, (16 MB) AGP Video Card |
Matrox has built quite a name for themselves when the G200 lived up to the hype. Now they have made the Matrox G 400. This card backs up their reputation that delivers excellent performance and a visibly better image than even the TNT2’s can deliver.
There is more than that. It has onboard features like Dual Head Display that allows you to use the one card to power two monitors. The 32MB card runs at 360 MHz and supports AGP 2X and 4X. It really starts to show its stuff in Direct 3D. If you play quake 3 with this card, which has 32 bit textures, you will see it produce some of the most dazzling effects I have ever seen. The frame rate is a tad slower than the TNT2 but they didn’t affect the game and it produced incredibly crisp, bright visuals.
It comes with the game Expendable. The Matrox G 400 takes full advantage of the environmental bump-mapping and other features. Environmental bump-mapping is used to create realistic water ripples and things like that.
If you want a TV tuner you will have to buy a TNT2 but here you will get you will get a much more powerful card. In many games it has a slower frame rate than the TNT2 but makes up for this with its superior visuals. If you are looking for a high-end card this is a great one to get over the TNT2’s. In many games it has a slower frame rate than the TNT2 but has superior visuals.
