savyk's Full Review: Green Power GS-2000 190 Watts Juicer
I used to pay good money at my local Wild Oats Health food store for raw juices. So I decided to research and find the model that I wanted for a home juicer. I started off with the Jack Lalane centrifuge juicer. I used that for about 1 year and wanted to be able to juice wheat grass. I really liked the reviews for the Green Star so this is the one I bought. I love it. I have made fresh raw juices, baby food, nut butters and fresh fruit sorbets. This unit is on my countertop at all times.
One other reasons I wanted this Green Star is due to the addition to keeping more enzymes intact because of less heat and friction, the Green Power also utilizes bioceramic and magnetic technologies, which helps to add more positive ions and vitality to minerals in the juice.
Here's how it works: at the core of each of the twin gears is a series of magnets. The magnets are each three-quarters of an inch long and are alternated between positive and negative. When the two gears are placed side-by-side, the positive and negative magnets are also alternated between the gears, which generates a positive charge, or attraction.
At the molecular level, this means the magnets are creating positive ions as the gears spin.
Surrounding the inner core of magnets is a second level containing bioceramic particles and an outer layer of stainless steel. Bioceramic particles, produced by far-infrared technology, also emit positive ions. Magnets in the Green Power work in conjunction with these bioceramic particles. The magnets recharge the bioceramic material and the bioceramic material recharges the magnets. Without this recharging, the effect of both the magnets and the bioceramic material each would eventually be diminished.
As the gears are spinning, the magnets and the bioceramic material are each producing more positive ions than can be held in charge by either the magnets or bioceramic material, therefore many of these positive ions go into the juice.
These additional positive ions add more vitality and longevity to the life of the minerals, which reduces oxidation and keeps the juice fresher longer. This is most important to me. I like to make enough juice to last for 3 to 4 days.
If you get to the stage where everything is backing up, it's too late. At this point you have to disassemble the juicer, unplug the screen and clean off all the pulp. What a mess. I know I've had to do this myself. After the juicer is all cleaned up and you are ready to go again, here is what you should do. Loosen the Outlet Adjustment Knob one full turn for apples/pears and 3 full turns for citrus. Then start putting in slices of apples, pears, citrus whatever, letting the juicer do the work. What I mean by this is don't force anything through the juicer. Learn what I call the rhythm of the juicer. The idea is that you are not to do the work, the juicer is. A light pressure up and down will do, no force is required. The more force that you use, the more your juicer will plug up. Remember your screen inside the juicer should be almost as clean as it was when you started. If not, you are probably forcing the product through the juicer -- lighten up. :- )
If you get something caught between the gears you should
Stop the juicer and tap the "ON-OFF-REVERSE" switch into Reverse position. This will free any item the might be caught between the gears.
When juicing wheat grass or leafy greens it always depends on the quality of the product that you are using. What I mean is is that you should always use fresh and well hydrated products when using this or any juicer. Make sure that the product that you are using is well hydrated and that the product is not past its prime. You have to remember you are dealing with just a thin blade of grass or leaf. Trying to extract moisture from a dehyrated item is next to impossible. 99% of the time what you will get is foam instead of a liquid when juicing a product that is old and limp. Fresh, Fresh is the Best!!
What to do if you get foam when juicing wheat grass or leafy greens. Foam is caused by lack of moisture in your wheat grass or leafy greens. You might want to juice one or two carrots before juicing wheat grass or leafy greens. This will do two things: First cut the foam down and second you will use less leafy greens and less wheat grass from your flat. You will get more servings per flat instead of 3 servings you will get 4 servings. Often times people will juice carrots first and then immeditely juice wheatgrass or leafy greens without cleaning the juicing chamber. Try this and see if it doesn't help!
When you are in a hurry, here is a quick way to clean your Green Power or Green Star juicer while still fully assembled: First, right after your juicing session while your juicer is still running, pour 2 large glasses of warm water down the feed chute. Second, place a small amount of dishwashing soap into a large glass with medium hot water and pour this hot soapy solution down the feeding chute. Finally, rinse with medium hot water 2 or 3 times. This process should insure that your juicer is sanitary and clean. You should, however, frequently disassemble the juicer for a thorough cleaning. Never ever put any part of the juicer parts in the dishwasher.
