Don Knotts, Tim Conway, et al... (Reply to this comment)

Disney movies! They just don't make 'em like they used to, do they?
Maybe that's a good thing. Then again, maybe not. I for one was a huge Apple Dumpling Gang fan--another one with Knotts and Conway.
Great review of a movie I'd totally forgotten existed!

Tops review - it's always fun to go back to iconic movies like this from one's childhood, and that really shows through in your prose, both on the surface and between the lines.
...and as to my own childhood over-watched film, well, it'd have to be Labyrinth (hey, I'm still young! *laugh*)...which is sort of a guilty pleasure, but hey, Bowie and Jennifer Connelly - can't go that far wrong, non?

... favorite film as a child that I watched over and over....
Gads. Here's where I show my age... gulp... we hadn't even heard of VCRs until my daughter (Azurely here) was born in 1981.
BUT! I could prolly do either House with William Katt yer p*ssing me off Roger! or ummmm Neverending Story from memory of her watching them ad nauseum. LOL Personally, I think she just liked House cuz of that one line. grin.
My own most watched movie as a teen and then adult though would be RHPS, which I wrote up last night in between dancing like a maniac to Time Warp. weeeeeeeeeeeee Have seen that every Halloween for the last 20 years, and some in between. How warped am I? LOL

mike, of course i'm not making fun of you!
Oh, I know, I know. I'm just yanking your chain. I even included a tiny tribute to this comment in my latest review, of M*A*S*H.
(i liked North Dallas Forty, is that wrong?)
It can't be wrong, if it feels so right. (ew!)

mike, of course i'm not making fun of you! i always liked in your reviews when you used that phrase (it's so much better than "Plot Summary"), so if anything, i'm blatantly ripping you off (but at least i gave you credit!).
And thank you for coming out in defense of Gus, if only more would do the same. lol

Okay, now, as mfunk75 is prone to say "a review of the movie proper".
Yikes! I've coined a cliche!
Anyway, I do remember seeing Gus on more than one occasion during my cinephile-esque childhood. It ranks right up there with other animals-in-sports classics like Ed (Matt LeBlanc and a baseball-playing chimp), Air Bud (a basketball-playing dog), and, of course, North Dallas Forty (a football-playing Nick Nolte; n'yuck!).
Great write-up, Chad...

You read Sordid-1's order to watch more Knotts! I don't remember this, but probably saw it. Apple Dumpling Gang was great. Mary Poppins, Wizard of Oz, The Strongest Man in the World, Absent-Minded Professor, Nutty Professor....;-)
