The Bottom Line: Broke after 1 1/2 years of light use
My cousins wife (who I CANNOT stand anyway) declared this mixer a piece of junk when we bought it about 1 1/2 years ago. Naturally, she has a Kitchen-Aide, so I figured she was just being a snob. Sad to say, she may have been right. We've been using the mixer about once a week or so and it's done a good job with doughs, batters and whips. My wife has begun trying to perfect a multi-grain bread recipe for my sandwiches that I take to work. Yesterday, while working the heavy dough, the mixing stopped but the motor kept running making an unhappy grinding noise. I haven't disassembled it completey but I believe the gear box is stripped. Apparently the huge motor was too much for the drive train. So we've gone from very happy with it to very disappointed. I hope my wife registered for the warranty, but she almost never does so we may be shopping for a new mixer. I wouldn't recommend this one. The attractiveness of low price is long gone and the aggravation of poor quality remains. I had a Kitchen-Aide for years that was virtually bulletproof, but gave it to my step-son. Maybe it's time for a new one.
