I just purchased one of these antennas. After opening the box I was quietly confident that this thing was going to be the answer to my limp signal lameness.
To be honest I started to worry that the antenna was going to be so good that it would send out an unprotected wi-fi signal all over the neighbourhood. It certainly looks like it should. It appeared to be really well made...the combination of a well designed metal base stand and a mysterious, un-antenna-like antenna had me convinced that I was on to a wireless winner.
Just goes to show that looks can be deceiving.
After wiring it up to the router I spent about 30 disappointing minutes running back and forth between the antenna and my laptop. I pointed the damn thing in every direction possible. I wished myself wireless wellness. I shook both fists at the antenna and threatened to chop its cable off if it didn't start working. All to no avail. My laptop signal reception didn't budge. It was as weak as ever. Bummer.
Luckily I bought this thing off of Craigslist.....so I'm not too badly out of pocket. Besides, it will definitely come in handy for stirring up tins of paint...or as an oversized tongue depresser.
