expert_witness's Full Review: Hawking HPS1U (H-PS1U) Print Server
Bought it before reading the reviews, that'll teach me. Got 90% of the way through the installation before getting an error code. There's no discussion in the manual of errors, or troubleshooting of any kind. So effectively, once you're derailed, you're done. I did call tech support, and after an hour and a half wait I did speak with a tech, who ran through the few tricks he had. We downloaded a new driver, tried to install it on top of the existing driver, and thereby corrupted the uninstall file. Now the software couldn't be uninstalled, so we had to go back to an XP restore point... Blah blah blah, at least an hour if not more, and when we were done it was worse than when we started. He asked if my printer was a multifunction machine, which it is, and he said aha, that's why it doesn't work. Perhaps -- but my printer wasn't even hooked up to it at the time. When my computer can't recognize a peripheral attached directly to it, it's time to give up. Wish I didn't have to take the time to drive it back to the store; if it cost a few bucks less I'd just chuck it in the trash. Waste of time, let alone money.
