| deckitbruiseit's Full Review: Koss KSC-50 Consumer Headphones |
Scenario: One year ago, I'm standing in the headphone department of Best Buy holding $25 in my hand. My Mission: Find and purchase a pair of headphones using the money in my hand. They must be small and portable without forfeiting too much sound quality. Well, the latter part of the mission is not easily found by staring at a rack. You have to test them. "Well, these Kosses look good, so what the heck." Good choice, Daniel.
Since the moment I set the phones on my ears and hit the play button, I've been in love. The crisp, clear sound that delivers deep, rumbling lows and perfect, chiming highs without the slightest bit of hesitation or strain. What a great product to replace those old, headache inducing Sonys. And for $20!
That was the first impression. Now lets talk about long-term durability. Great for about eight months until a strange rattling came from the right phone. That was quickly solved by a firm slap on the side. To this day it still rattles, and has somehow strangely gotten worse when I turn on my player, but the solution still works, even if it may take longer to go away. Also, the little clip that hooks onto my ear just decided to come off recently, but it easily snaps back on. (Sometime I think I should superglue that sucker on there.)
For comfort, these clip-ons are hard to beat. The clip (before it snapped off) can be bent or prodded in any direction to fit your ear. It's connected to a rotating piece on the side that also helps for sizing. Just think of it as a one-size-fits-most (people with very small ears beware). Once you get it sized right, the phone is very comfortable. Only after an hour or so of listening does it start chafing the back of my ear. Better than a headache.
Now finally for the sound. Well, as I described before, it's awesome, blah blah. A number of people sitting near me while I listen complain that they can hear the sound. Obviously, a sound leak in your vicinity will alert people to whether you're listening to the Beatles or Yellowcard. Good conversation starter, though. One last thing I have to say is that at very high volumes, the extremities on the sound scale start to fade and rattle, but that's no problem for me because I don't listen to music that loud.
Let's just say that if you're looking for cost effective, high quality sound that'll fit in your pocket, look no further than these Kosses.
