| mosquitoguy's Full Review: Koss KSC-50 Consumer Headphones |
I needed a lightweight earphone/headphone as an alternative to my Sennheiser HD580-- they're great, but the bulkiness of the thing makes it unsuitable for use with walkmans or while traveling. The first earphone I got was a Sony for around $15. It was a piece of junk. Something was horribly missing from the sound spectrum so that every piece of music sound like crap.
I had a Koss KTX Pro a while back, and after my bad experience with Sony, I decided to buy another Koss. Luckily, this KSC50 model doesn't disappoint. When I first listened to it, I thought it sounded rather harsh and hard. The highs are very bright-- much like my Grados. But after I broke it in by letting it run for a few hours at high volume, it sounded much better-- i.e. softer, and the highs aren't as painful as when it first came out of the package.
Of course, my HD580 sounds much better-- the bass is much more defined, and better separation, but then it costs at least five times as much. The separation in KSC50 isn't great-- you will never get a "live" performance sensation or the vocals jumping out of the recording, but it is much better than your average earphones. It does a good job on all the spectrum, even though the mids are little bit weak. And unlike most other brands, you will definitely feel the bass that's balanced with the rest of the music.
