| rjespo's Full Review: Koss KSC-50 Consumer Headphones |
I love Koss ... they really know how to make an excellent pair of headphones. The KSC-50's, which I bought at Best Buy sound amazing on my iPod -- almost as good as my Grado SR-60's. They have a good amount of preciseness and clarity. In fact, they sound far better than Koss's UR20 fullsize headphones.
Simply put, these headphones are twice as good as the popular Sony model of similar appearance that I see everyone wearing. I'm almost upset that so many people just buy the Sony's and don't see what they are missing. The KCS-50's don't even cost any more!
Now to the negatives ... After one month of use, my headphones broke! Unacceptable! Let me see if I can explain this right: You know how the headphones are not connected by a band and simply clip onto each ear? Well, the wire's from each side are joined about 6 inches down by a small terminal that combines them into one cord and terminates in a miniplug. The cord is coming out of this terminal after a month of hanging the headphones upside down, which is necessary to untangle them every time I take them out of my backpack.
The other negative is that these headphones should strictly be used for either exercising or for college, walking from class to class as I use them. The ear clips will begin to irritate your ear if you wear them too long. Also, when you put them on your ear, don't "screw" them on too tight or you'll pinch the rim of your ear. You'll know what I'm talking about if you buy them.
Sure, they broke after one month of use, but they sound so good that I'm going to buy them again. Only this time, I am going to get the KSC-55's which have a band that goes behind your neck just like the Sony's do. What I give up in portability, I'll hopefully gain in sparing the cords from being tugged at every time I try to untangle them.
PS: I give these a 5 in sound quality not because they are the best sounding of all headphones but because they are the best sounding in their category.
