| skbreese's Full Review: Koss KSC-50 Consumer Headphones |
I have been a huge fan of Koss brand headphones for years. When the foam ear cushions began to wear on my last pair of headphones, I decided to by a new set. I found an excellent price at Radioshack on a set of Koss headphones that included the KSC-5 Earbud Headphones. Since I listen to music while at work, these small, lightweight, headphones were a perfect solution to the problem of keeping noise to a minimum in an office setting.
Description
These portable, tadpole shaped, clip-on headphones fit snugly behind each ear and come with a 4 foot long cord that plugs into your computer speakers or jack. They provide stereo quality sound despite their miniature size. They easily fit into a briefcase or purse and are relatively inconspicuous.
Sound Quality
Due to their miniature size, these headphones do not have separate control features for volume, bass, or other settings. These mini headphones provide surprisingly good quality sound for such a small product. The set features neodymium rare earth magnet and oxygen-free, copper voice coil that accounts for the impressive sound quality in an ultra small package. I was delighted to discover that I can distinguish a full range of symphonic sounds on my classical CDs with these amazingly small earbuds.
This product is perfect for use with MP3 players or portable AM/FM cassette or CD players as well as computer amplifiers.

Recommendation
I work in a large office, divided into almost wall to wall cubicles. I am always conscious of trying to keep the noise level low, since much of the work in the office is done via telephone. These earbud headphones allow me to enjoy my music at a reasonable level of quality and at a volume level that will not disturb my co-workers.
The headset is convenient, and although confining, allows for sufficient movement for basic computer workstation functions. The primary drawbacks are the relatively short cord, which confines the listener to the computer screen or device, and lack of filters to screen out computer generated sounds including mouse clicking and audio cues for e-mail and other amplified sounds. The e-mail audio cues are particularly annoying with increased volume, and may require the listener to disable them altogether or opt for visual cues. Despite their good quality sound, the earbud headphones do not screen out important sounds such as telephone ringing or a moderate volume of conversation.
I have been very pleased with this unexpected bonus to my headphone set. The KSC5-Earbud Headpones can be ordered separately from the Koss website at www.koss.com for 9.99 and can also be found at various retail outlets. They may look like Tadpoles, but these babies don't swim, they sing!
