cdpinions's Full Review: Labtec Elite 840 Consumer Headphones
This mighty head phone from Labtec packs a punch for a pretty low price. Designed specially for accurate bass reproduction, it delivers pretty well. It managed to reproduce sound accurately even when the volume was cranked up high.
Tested it using various games, chiefly Halo, delivering the different sounds(the voices, weapons fire, etc) well. The surround sound capabilities are good, better than the normal speakers and headphone, mainly because of the clear sound reproduction. The bass was well, bombastic- it aced the test at but the highest volume levels. Movies sounded great on this one- perfect for those who want to watch the Matrix or Pearl Harbor alone with the volume cranked up.
The provided cable is pretty long, and was designed to be tangle-free - I love this feature, my other earphone cables tangle in the pocket, creating a headache when I take it out.
However, a few minor grouses have to be highlighted. The unit is slightly bulky, so it might weigh down the 'light headed' ones. Also, if you often jiggle your head to the groove of the music, this one is not for you. It slips of if you shift or rock your head hard.
Now the last part that I feel that I have to mention is something that I think you should know. I can't decide if its something good or bad, so judge it for yourself. The head phone was designed with acoustic air vents to facilitate enhanced bass reproduction. This, together with the powerful speakers, creates quite a sound. In a quiet(~20dB)room, you can hear the sounds emanating from the head phones. Bad thing if you want privacy, or trying not to disturb your spouse, good if you want speakers- nowadays, i crank the volume of my mp3 player, and voila, a speaker of my own. However, this effect is not pronounced, since the average room is 30-40 dB loud.
In a nutshell, if you need a high quality headphone at a reasonable price, this is the one for you.
