khlorineking's Full Review: Labtec Elite 840 Consumer Headphones
Well I happen to love headphones, and probably have 8 pairs in my room. Everytime I see a pair, I have to get them. I've had the GE vibrating headphones, which were good until the vibrators wore out, and rattled, so those were gone. After that I bought the philips folding headphones (SBC- Hp550's) and while folding a little too easily sometimes, they have very good sound. However they lacked the crisp treble that I wanted. Very good midrange and bass though.
Sound: So after a while with those, I just purchased these labtec headphones. They seemed apealing when I first read the box. Down to 20hz, which was adequate, and they had 50mm drivers. So hey, I figured that you can't always go by frequency, and I was sure they'd have bass. I was wrong. The bass is weak. It is very far away, and the problem is, is that I can't use them with my Portable CD Player. Because the speakers are so big in them, I have to turn my PCDP up to full volume, and that distorts. I have yet to try them on my DVD player though, as they are marked for digital.
Comfort: As for comfort these are some of the most comfortable I've tried on, and that's after trying on Sennheiser 570's as well, which I think are extremely comfortable. you hardly notice these on, even after very long periods of time.
Durability: These seem pretty durable. I dropped them on the floor and they kidna just bounced and sat there and were unharmed. Now, I wouldn't recommend sitting on these or testing their durability with a sledge hammer, but they're not gonna fall apart on your head if you go over a bump in the car.
Portability: While not too portable, they also came with smaller wrap around the ear, portable headphones, which almost sound as good, so you can just bring those, however, these are pretty bulky after a while, and that's one advantage of my foldables that I liked better. I could just fold and go.
So after buying these I'd say they're not too bad. However, the sound could use a little warmness to it. They are made for vocal more than music. Very crisp and high treble. Strong midrange, and medium bass. Better for classical music.
