I bought the MDR-DS8000 because in the room where I watch my DVD's was very difficult to install an home theater system and because I have to keep a low volume in order to avoid problems with the neighbours.
The results with the MDR-DS8000 are impressive: high quality sound, no noise, good bass response. You can very well locate the sounds in front of you. The sounds of the rear channels seem to come a bit from above, but they contribute to the 3D sound sensation.
A little bit metallic on the high frequencies.
The gyrotrak circuit is fantastic and gives you the feeling that you are listening to a speaker system.
Very good also with stereo signals, using the virtual surround emulation: listening to a pipe organ you think you are in a cathedral.
It's a bit annoying to extract the batteries every time you have to charge them (they last 4-5 hours): I'd preferred a cradle, also because you cannot hang them to a support, since they would switch on.
