The MPN for this Laptop is F2068WT(on the bottom of Laptop). The thing is some spec's are differant.
1 CPU is AMD K6-3 550 mhz
2 Memory is 256 meg PC100(max this Laptop can use
3 8 Meg of System memory is shared with Video
4 1 USB 1.1 slot
5 Instead of Windows 98SE that was first installed on this, somebody had installed Linux.
6 The harddrive is now a 6.5 gig hd(of course the owner at the time may have put this in)
7 Cisco Systems 350 Series Wireless Lan Adapter(does not have Lan Port)
A boy friend of my oldest granddaughter had been give this Laptop(from now known as PC) from somebody he knew. He did not like Linux and he wanted Windows installed back on this PC.
So what did you install on this PC?
My problem was that I no longer had a copy of 98/98SE or even Me to install on this PC. Neither did he have a copy. After looking at the online spec's, I thought there might be a possiblity that Windows XP may run on this PC. This is because during Beta Testing of XP, I used a computer that had very close to the same spec's. I knew it would be a little slow but the thing is most of what my granddaughter does is surf the internet and play games such as PacMan.
He and I talked about this and I told him if it worked, he would have to get his own copy of Windows XP as I need the OS for beta testing. He agreed, So I proceeded to try installing XP Pro on the PC.
OK so what happened?
Taking about 2 hours to install, formating, installing, answering all the questions, it ran. Checking the Device Manager all the hardware was installed. Activating on line was easy and painless. I then installed SP2 and 3. This left a total of 3 gig space on the harddrive.
I was amazed that the Laptop was not as slow as I thought it would be. In fact I'm sure that my granddaughter will like it as I said before most of what she does is surf the net-email and on line simple games like Pac Man.
What about the condition of the LapTop
The condition of the case is excellant-no scratches that I can find-the display is not as bright as LCD panels in production at this time but is bright enough for even my old eyes. Surprisingly with comtinuous use the battery will last about 1 1/2 hours. I investigated the Laptop and I believe that a larger(20 to 40 gig hardrive) can be added. I haveheard where the hinge becmes loose esp one's as old as this one. But it is tight and holds at what ever angle set.
