Pros: Multifunctional, and reasonably fast for the money; easy to set-up
Cons: Cannot copy a color page as a B/W page
The Bottom Line: It's an extremely useful and quality machine for the money. It's another one of those machines you can't live without after a while.

| AlamoLady's Full Review: Hewlett Packard PSC 500 All-In-One Printer |
I received my HP PSC500 printer as a Christmas gift 2 months ago (Thanks, kids!). How nice to have a machine that does so much for a fair price. It's for home use, and it's my first scanner and copy machine (I've had printers for years). For years I have been making "copies" off my fax machine; what an improvement! The installation is a breeze, and the unit is small enough that I don't feel it takes up too much room in my home office.
Although I need it primarily for B/W copies or printing off my computer, the unit does print very good duplicates of originals; I have to take a close look to determine which is which.
The only 2 areas in which I can see a need for improvement are these:
1. The machine needs a setting where a color page can be copied in B/W; my daughter realized this a few days ago when she wanted to "save" some colored ink for me. We were unable to find in the instruction manual a way to do this---perhaps it's possible by scanning a picture into the computer, and then printing it in B/W? Haven't tried this yet.
2. From my vantage point in my office, I can't always see if the machine is "on", and have occasionally left it "on" for the night. A small red indicator light on the front would be useful.
