| viperpa33s's Full Review: Hewlett Packard Pavilion 764n (DA194A#ABA) PC Desk... |
I updated my review of this computer since it was not detailed enough on how good I think this computer really is.
I was searching for a computer that came with a lot but didn't cost a lot. Though this computer didn't come with a monitor, it did come with a DVD writer which made up for it. Lets start off with the speed, 2.66 ghz with 512 mb DDR ram. This computer is quick, handled all of my needs so far. You can also upgrade the ram to the max of 2 gigs. Not that you need that much, 512 mb's gets my needs done with no problems. The DVD burner is a 4x which may not seem that fast but it gets the job done. I have burned pictures and home made movies without a hitch. It comes with a CDRW, so you'll be able to burn the smaller stuff like mp3's. It comes with a DVD player and a regular cd-rom drive. The DVD player, DVD writer and CDRW is all 1 drive, and the regular cd-rom is another drive.
It comes with a Nvidia GeoForce 440 MX 128mb graphics card. The graphics card was 1 of the reason why I chose this computer besides the DVD writer. I have the video card hooked up to a 17" flat panel monitor and the graphics are fantastic. If your into alot of heavy graphic games like Neverwinter Nights, Unreal 2 like I am, then this video card does the job. I play a lot of those type of games myself and was impressed. I play alot of movies and the movies look great.
It comes with a memory card reader built into the computer for the people who use a digital camera alot like I do. All I have to do is slide the memory card from the camera into the reader and I can instantly put the pictures onto my computer. It has 5 USB 2 ports 1 in front, 4 in the back. Trust me your going to need them all since alot of newer components are using USB 2. My printer, pc camera, and mp3 player are all USB 2. It also comes with 2 Firewire ports. I have a external hard drive that only works with Firewire.
The only thing this computer didn't have was a sound card. It computer does come with a 5.1 sound enhancment software built in. I wanted a good sound card though so I can hook up my 5.1 speakers and play my games. I bought a Creative Audigy 2 sound card and was good to go. Getting inside to hook up the sound card was easy. Just loosen up 2 screws and slide the side panel off, it's that easy.
It comes with a 120 gigs of hard drive so there is no lacking in space unless your a person like me, a pack rat. It comes bundled with software, Corel Wordperfect, MusicMatch, WinDVD, HP Photosmart, WildTangent games and there is much more. The only thing it doesn't come with is anti virus software, so you'll have to get that seperately. It also comes with Windows XP Home. Windows XP is already updated, so if there is any updating to do it's very little.
The only thing I didn't like is, instead of giving you backup disk's, they place the backup software on your hard drive. So your losing almost 7 gigs of hard drive space. Also the process of burning the backup software onto a disk didn't work, so I ended up calling HP for the backup disk's anyways. Burning the backup software onto a disk only works once, if the process messes up, you can't burn it again. You have to call HP to get replacement disks. I called HP and HP tech support was very helpful and sent me out the backup disk's right away.
So you see why I give this computer a excellent rating. I hope my review helps out the undecided.
