| mindthegap's Full Review: Hewlett Packard Pavilion ze5375us (DC964A) PC Note... |
I've had this laptop for about 2 and a half years. Before the BIOS update, I was unhappy with this laptop. Now, I can say that it's a good laptop. It has it's pros and cons as you'll see below but it's been good value for the money. HP support has been helpful. I had to replace the keyboard because my child spilled orange juice on it. This was fairly inexpensive ($40) and much easier than I imagined. On the other hand, the drive died prematurely. Drive replacement (Hitachi) was easy but I expected to get a few more years out of the original (Toshiba). And, it seems to have problems pulling music from a CD these days. The first half of the MP3s will create successfully. The second half will be half or nil in size and unable to play. I blame this on heat as the CD when it pops out is sizzling. DVDs get equally toasty. Haven't had a chance to check out this issue with HP yet. Oh yeah, I can't stand having the touch pad enabled. You're always accidentally sending the pointer across the screen while typing. Thankfully, it has an on/off button. I always use an external mouse. You might also want to know that there isn't enough juice coming out of the USB ports to power the typical nonpowered external USB drive. A powered USB hub is necessary. I believe a single powered USB channel will deliver about 500ma. The drive that came out of my laptop for instance runs 700ma. The 2.5" external drive cases can use a second powered USB port to get the remaining juice. This laptop seems to be sharing the power amongst the various USB ports.
